A friend is a gift you give yourself
From the Senior High School I had learned two things: the type of friends I wanted, and the type of friend I wanted to be. I had a great friend who knew me right away. He was a very caring person. It was funny how he understood all I had to say. He listened to my problems, my dreams and we talked about love and life. I never once felt judged by him. He knew just how I felt. He seemed to just accept me and all the problems I'd been dealt. He didn't interrupt me or need to have his say. He just listened very patiently and didn't go away.
I saw him last night for the first time in years. He was miserable. He had bleached his hair, trying to hide its true color, just as his rough front hid his deep unhappiness. He needed to talk, so we went for a walk. While I thought about my future, the college applications that had recently left. Then he spoke. He told me about his love and I saw a dependent relationship with dominating girl.He told me about the drugs, and I saw that they were his escape. He told me about he needed a friend and I saw hope, because at least I could give him that. He really needed my friendship now more than ever. So I took his hand and told him that I was there and that it was okay to cry, so he did. All he need was LOVE
